Da-da-da-da! Someone to the rescue!

The United States will ship 20 million dollars worth of food to Haiti 30,000 tons of rice beans and vegetable oil.

Brazilian government is donating US$ 200,000 worth of food.

Miami-Dade County collects emergency food for the people of Haiti.

Miami 10th Haitian Compas Festival will hold food drive.

Wonderful and hooray for those who are stepping up to the plate, but herein lies the problem:

Twenty years ago Haiti produced 95 percent of the rice that its people consumed; today it imports from the U.S. 80 percent of that product.

Is it possible, MAYBE the United States, Brazil, Miami and all those who are really interested in helping could find a way to purchase the food locally?

A look at that question later...
